The Wild World of Mondegreens
During Merriam-Webster’s recent quest for mondegreens, readers wrote in from around the world to tell us that many animals—like baboons, otters, and goats—popped up uninvited into their versions of lyrics to songs. The most popularly confused line from the Animal Kingdom ategory was the insertion of "the cross-eyed bear" in place of "the cross I’d bear," from the traditional hymn (and later the Alanis Morissette hit song, "You Oughta Know"). Click here to see more favorite mondegreens culled from the Animal Kingdom. Enjoy!
